Light Always Wins

A poem by Achuthan Panikath

"It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us."

A line that has at last risen to relevance.
We cared too much for it's the right thing to do.
Shed tears for the fallen,
Screamed for the falling,
Cursed at the rise of a voice unburdened.

But what is this malady silencing nights?
Some say it's pain- they're running away.
Some say it's guile- they're polishing knives.
What if it's not but the dawn of the fear?
'One day we'll learn to tune out our hearts.'

Today let's watch the world at our feet.
We can hardly care now for our very own.
Passive scrolls for good data;
Assess pain as market gaps.
We just curse at the fall of our favorite stock.

What happens when all the love we are capable of fades into apathy?
We try again.
